Donated to Durham Wildlife Trust in 1993, the wood is a memorial to the late Harry Collinson, a Derwentside District Officer who died tragically in 1991.
Plant life in this regenerating woodland is rich, including common spotted orchids and abundant bluebells in spring, attracting several species of butterfly such as small tortoiseshell, meadow brown and large skipper.
The reserve adjoins the Derwent Walk, a popular linear route between Consett and Swalwell, with fabulous views across the Derwent Valley. Click here for more information on the Derwent Walk.
