Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)

‘Biodiversity Net Gain (or BNG)  is a way of creating and improving natural habitats. BNG makes sure development has a measurably positive impact (‘net gain’) on biodiversity, compared to what was there before.’ ~ DEFRA  

 

BNG services 

Durham Wildlife Trust and our in-house consultancy Durham Wildlife Services can provide a full BNG service and the BNG units you require. 

  • Initial ecological assessment of development site. 

  • DEFRA metric calculations and BNG reports for planning purposes. 

  • Provision of mitigation land for BNG delivery. 

  • Planning and implementation of habitat restoration and creation. 

  • Ongoing management and monitoring to ensure BNG requirements are met.

What’s on offer 

Operating across County Durham, Darlington, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside, Durham Wildlife Trust manages more than 3000 acres of land at multiple locations. The Trust can deliver BNG for a wide range of habitat types, from grassland and scrub to more distinctive habitats and rivers and streams.  

With over 50 years of land-management experience, Durham Wildlife Trust has the knowledge and skills required to ensure successful BNG implementation that supports nature’s recovery whatever the habitat type.
