Rainton Meadows: past, present and future
In 2025, thanks to our generous supporters, we were able to secure additional land and expand Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve. Now we are looking to the future of the new land and the wider reserve and we would love to share our plans and hear your feedback.
During a series of events at the nature reserve during October, you can view our plans for habitat restoration, access to nature and find out more about our work for wildlife in this much-loved space.
We will have a series of information boards to view, featuring details about the nature reserve's history, the phases of restoration that have happened since it was an opencast coalmine and our plans for the future, including how visitors can access nature around the reserve. There will be people on-hand to discuss the plans with you and you will have the opportunity to supply your feedback on the proposals.

We are running a series of showcase events in the Bellamy Room, downstairs at Rainton Meadow Visitor Centre. Come along, read all about the nature reserve, its history, why it is so special and important for wildlife and learn more about our plans for new habitats and species support.
