Muddy Wellies: Find the Animal Footprints

A collage showing young children exploring nature in waterproof clothing and colourful wellies. One photo shows four children walking hand‑in‑hand across grass; another shows a child in a blue coat and red boots looking over a wooden fence at a pond. Other images capture close‑ups of red boots on wet boards and families walking along sunlit woodland paths. Logos for Durham Wildlife Trust and Sunderland City Council appear on a pale green background to the right.

About the event

Muddy Wellies is supported by Public Health Sunderland to get young children outdoors to improve their health and wellbeing, develop new skills and learn about nature.

Sessions are aimed at pre-school children between 2 and 5 years and will take place outdoors in January and February.

In this session we will discover all the different tracks that we might see in the wild. Learn what footprints each animals makes and why they have different shaped feet. Practice story telling through clues that animals leave behind when they move through the woods.

More information about the sessions:

To gain the most from our programme, we recommend you come to all six sessions, but if you cannot make it to all the sessions, just message Lyze to let them know.

Little ones must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is essential. Tickets are only required for children.

Facilities are available in The Lakes Cafe on site.

Please come dressed for outdoor activities appropriate to the weather of the day including sturdy shoes, layers and waterproofs. We do have limited sizes of waterproofs and wellies available to lend out if needed – please let us know prior to the sessions if you would like to borrow these.
