About the event

Join our team of staff and local volunteers to carry out a rocky shore survey as part of a citizen science project called Shoresearch, where we record the rock pool species that we find along the North East coast.

You do not need to have any experience of survey work or of rocky shore ecology as there will be experts on hand to assist you, so beginners are most welcome!

This is part of a national survey being carried out by Wildlife Trusts across the UK. To find out more about Shoresearch please click here. Durham Wildlife Trust will provide all the sampling kit, survey sheets and identification guides.

Booking is essential!

Please wear clothing suitable for all weather conditions.  We will be out for up to two hours, so conditions can change, and be very different out on the shore than inland.

The rocky shore can be very slippery in places, and we will be walking through shallow pools so wellies or boots with very good grips and that you don't mind getting wet are strongly advised. This activity is not suitable for people with limited mobility.

As it may be quite warm, please also bring a bottle of water. Lunch will not be provided, so please eat before or after the activity.

There are multiple car parks nearby, with the closest being Marine Walk Car Park (W3W: ///ports.bulb.raft).

The Engagement Officer will be waiting at the meeting point; should you not be able to find them, they can be contacted on: 07415626522.
