Conservation Rangers at Rainton Meadows

A collage of six street art murals by artist Frank Styles, displayed on a pale green background with the word “RANGERS” in bold teal letters across the centre. The artworks include colourful spray paint cans and tools, a grey building covered in geometric murals, a triangular building with stained‑glass‑style figures, a sailing ship labelled “City of Adelaide 1864,” a small green‑and‑white painted building, and a vivid mural of faces and abstract shapes in red, blue, and white.

About the event

Conservation Rangers is a regular group for 14 - 18 year olds who wish to learn some practical conservation skills, improve ecological knowledge, and enjoy the outdoors.

In this session we will be speaking with and working with Frank Styles – a spray-paint / mural / street artist who is lending his skills to liven up our Education Den area.

The session will allow our Rangers to directly influence aspects of the design including some of the wildlife to feature in the mural. There is also the option to actively paint parts of the piece.

Time allowing, the session will also feature a brief guided tour of the reserve at a time when most people don’t access it. Because of this, we are much more likely to see some of the wildlife that is less visible through the working day.

Please note that given the nature of this session, attendees should turn up dressed in clothes they are willing to get dirty or which may incur staining from the painting of the den.

As this session is after hours, your group leader will meet attendees at the second barrier on Mallard Way.

This will also be the collection point.

Join Conservation Rangers - a group of young volunteers - and get some hands on experience of managing a nature reserve and recording the wildlife. You'll gain new skills and get involved in conservation tasks including surveying, planting and painting tasks during these sessions.

These volunteering hours can count towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award or can be recorded as work experience on your CV, plus you’re helping to do your bit for the environment!

Please dress for the weather and bring suitable waterproof clothing. Wear sturdy boots/footwear.

Activities across different sessions may include:

  • Hand tool use
  • Painting
  • Planting
  • Grass cutting and raking
  • Litter picking
