Durham Wildlife Trust has many exciting opportunities for volunteering with our conservation teams as part of our Volunteer Task Force. We are always looking for willing volunteers who share our passion for wildlife, conservation and broadening awareness.  As a volunteer, you can play an integral role in what we do, it is also a wonderful way to socialise, learn new skills and give back to the community.


Task Force Volunteer
Durham Wildlife Trust manages more than 50 nature reserves between the Tees and the Tyne. From ancient woodland and heathland to meadows, wetlands and more. Our Task Force teams cover areas including Durham, Sunderland, Gateshead, Darlington and South Tyneside.


What’s involved?

• Practical habitat management including scrub clearance, tree felling, burning, coppicing, tree planting/maintenance, hedge laying, meadow raking, balsam control, bracken control, path mowing and reed cutting as part of a group of volunteers led by a task leader
• Assisting with reserve maintenance and infrastructure repairs or new installation of bridges, steps and surfaced footpaths as part of a group of volunteer led by a task leader


When can I get involved?

Across our 54+ reserves and various projects, we have practical conservation volunteering opportunities to get involved with every day of the week - including weekends! 

Volunteering is flexible - volunteers are welcome to join in with sessions that suit their interests and availability. We require all volunteers to register via our Volunteer Portal, and complete the induction process in order to book onto upcoming sessions.
