About the event

Join us on a guided walk around the Biddick Burn, with optional River-fly sampling demonstration. We are supporting this opportunity as part of a programme covering the greater Sunderland area, organised by Connecting Through Nature, a Nature Towns and Cities funded project for Sunderland. During this event will be focusing our attention on a corner of Washington that includes woodland around the Biddick Burn, close to its confluence with the Wear and to the south of Princess Anne Park.

You don't need to be an expert to take part in this, or even to use a phone; an interest in exploring and learning about the plants, birds and animals present in this urban edgeland is all that's required. The activity will take the form of a short walk, stopping to identify and record what we find. For those interested, this will be followed by an opportunity to experience river-fly monitoring in the burn. We will take a small kick-sample and look at the invertebrates living in the water, which can also tell us something about the health of the watercourse.

Travel Information
We will meet in a small parking area off Biddick Lane, Washington, NE38 8AE (W3W ///skill.nurse.joke). There is free parking available here, or it may be possible to park in Brookside Wood, close by. Several buses, including the 2, 4 and 8, stop within a few minutes walk.
