On 9th December, the Trust hosted many of its volunteers at a festive celebration event in Durham City.
During the gathering, a host of inspiring stories were shared about the dedication, support and commitment that so many people have given to Durham Wildlife Trust over so many years. From helping with the conservation work on nature reserves and projects, to running the gift shops and assisting with office administration, the Trust simply couldn’t do what it does without the support of volunteers. The evening also included a presentation of updates from across Durham Wildlife Trust, and the wider Wildlife Trusts central team, demonstrating the connection between local work for wildlife and the wider movement.
Volunteering Officer, Caitlin Elwin, said: "We were proud to celebrate some truly outstanding contributions at this inspiring event, including those recognised through our 'special awards'. We presented 'Young Volunteer of the Year', 'Coastal Champion', and 'Golden Shovel Award'. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all our volunteers for your time and dedication to support local wildlife. Collectively, volunteers have contributed an outstanding 28,324 hours across Durham Wildlife Trust during 2025."
