Wild about Brain Health # 2
Rainton Meadows,
Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve, Houghton-le-Spring, DH4 6PUAbout the event
‘Wild about Brain Health’ is a scheme of activities and workshops which aim to reduce dementia risk by promoting healthier lifestyles through nature-based activities.
The sessions, which form part of a co-operative project between Durham Wildlife Trust and Alzheimer's Research UK, offer a range of outdoor engagement activities and discussions, aimed at those who may be experiencing or are interested in issues related to dementia and cardiovascular health.
The session will start with a woodland wildlife survey where we will investigate some the woodland wildlife at Rainton Meadows. We will then think about the relationship between what we find and the other wildlife found around the reserve.
Following this, we will return to the centre for a tea or coffee and a workshop discussion where we will consider ways we can use outdoor interactions, lifestyle options and life hacks to help reduce the risk of dementia. We will also look at outdoor engagement as a coping mechanism to help promote brain health.
By the end of the session we will share a range of suggestions and ideas to help people improve their brain health.
Please come dressed for outdoor activities appropriate to the weather on the day.
