Trust takes joint top spot in awards ceremony.

Staff from the Trust attended the Northumbrian Water 2025 GEM Awards last week, celebrating partners who Go the Extra Mile.

Durham Wildlife Trust were the co-winners of the 'One Team' award alongside Essex and Suffolk Rivers Trust. Together with Northumbrian Water our teams have successfully delivered the Bluespaces Scheme in partnership from 2020 to 2025 along with developing and securing a £6 million programme for the 2025 to 2030 period.

The Bluespaces Scheme is delivered across the North East, working with an array of partners to develop and support projects delivering both biodiversity and social benefits, connecting people with their local water environments. This included creating wetlands, removing invasive species, adding new signage, implementing natural flood management and citizen science.

Alongside working with regional partners, the Trust has also delivered projects on its own sites at Low Barns, Milkwellburn Wood, Bishop's Fen and through Links with Nature. Now several of other projects are in development.
