Event details
About the event
Led by experienced ecologist and member of Durham Bat Group, Melissa Young, we will be shown how to use specialist detectors to identify bats as they fly past the group. Melissa will also share some information on the species of bat we find in the UK, their ecology and their foraging behaviours. Come along to learn about all things bat!
Please note: booking is essential for these sessions. Please book one space for every attendee.
What should I bring/wear?
All specialist equipment and ID guides will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own if you wish. Please make sure you dress appropriately for the weather and wear close-toed shoes. Long trousers and sleeves are advised. If you have one, please bring a torch (red LED torches are even better!).
Know before you go:
- Toilets are unlikely to be open at the time of the bat walks, so please make sure you go before you come!
- Each walk will follow pathed routes around the greenspace, leaving from and returning to the meet point.
- Each walk will last approximately 1.5 - 2 hours depending on bat activity.
- Each bat walk has a different location and start time, so please make sure you know the details of the session you are signing up to.
- We are asking all attendees to make their own way to and from the meeting point.
- This event is weather permitting - all attendees will be emailed on the day of the event if the session is not going ahead due to adverse weather.
- U18s welcome! All we ask is that they attend with a parent or guardian 18 or over.
- We kindly ask that you do not bring your dog to this session, with the exception of assistance dogs.
