About the event

Curious about the wildlife around you but not sure where to start? Join us for a friendly online session where we’ll show you how to use the free iNaturalist app and take part in the City Nature Challenge North East 2026.

This global event is all about discovering and sharing the nature on your doorstep — and you can join us to take part! Whether it’s a bird in your garden, a wildflower on your street, or something unusual you spot on a walk, every observation you record helps build a bigger picture of local nature.

In this relaxed Zoom session, we’ll guide you step-by-step through how to use iNaturalist, from taking a good photo to uploading your first observation. You’ll also find out how your records are identified and how they contribute to real wildlife research and conservation.

Why join us?

  • Feel more confident exploring and noticing nature around you.
  • Take part in a fun, global event from your local area.
  • Help put the North East’s wildlife on the map.

No experience is needed — it’s perfect for beginners.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to download and set up the iNaturalist app
  • Tips for taking photos that help with identification
  • How to upload and share your observations
  • What happens to your records and why they matter
  • How to take part in the City Nature Challenge (24–27 April 2026)

Whether you’re completely new or just want a quick refresher, this session will get you ready to join in and start recording nature with confidence.
