About the event

In this session we will be joined by Jennie Lambert and Steph Archer from the Going Places Project at Sunderland Culture for a creative planning session!  Share your ideas for an art-inspired takeover of the Den in the Rainton Meadows playground, helping visitors to appreciate what makes this green space special for people, wildlife and nature.

The Den will feature in an exciting new touring exhibition on the theme of Green Spaces, Shared Places which has been co-created with young people. The exhibition will include collections from Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens and its national partners along with local stories, specially created artworks and displays. Going Places is an Art Fund led project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Julia Rausing Trust.

Join this group of young volunteers and get some hands on experience of managing a nature reserve and recording the wildlife. You'll gain new skills and get involved in conservation tasks including surveying, planting and painting tasks during these sessions.

These volunteering hours can count towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award or can be recorded as work experience on your CV, plus you’re helping to do your bit for the environment!

Please dress for the weather and bring suitable waterproof clothing. Wear sturdy boots/footwear.

Activities across different sessions may include:

  • Hand tool use
  • Painting
  • Planting
  • Grass cutting and raking
  • Litter picking
