Event details
About the event
Join us for a winter walk through Hawthorn Dene to Hawthorn Meadows. We'll look for wildflowers and insects, identify trees, and spot seasonal birds along our coastal grasslands.
We will have spotter sheets for children to use, and will also have some binoculars available to borrow, but of course if you have your own, please bring them.
This event is being delivered as part of the Coastal Grasslands Reconnected Project, which aims to create and restore the wildflower rich magnesian limestone grasslands along the Durham Coastline. The project is a partnership between Durham County Council, the National Trust, and Durham Wildlife Trust. Coastal Grasslands Reconnected is funded by the Government’s Species Survival Fund.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sturdy footwear and warm, waterproof clothing, hat and gloves are advised.
Walks will be at a slow pace with lots of stops.
There is parking available, but no nearby toilet facilities.
Meet by the entrance to Hawthorn Dene Nature Reserve, SR7 8SH. There are spaces along the road adjacent to the track, please park considerately. https://what3words.com/juggle.tabloid.seagulls
